Heroes for Homeless is Central Iowa Shelter & Services’ signature event. Every year, we pause to recognize and honor the heroes who have gone above and beyond helping some of Des Moines’ most vulnerable population…our homeless.

Central Iowa Shelter & Services (CISS) is hosting our 6th annual Fore Homeless Veterans Golf Outing benefiting the homeless U.S. veterans that are staying with us in our emergency shelter.
Central Iowa Shelter and Services offers free meals to Des Moines Youth throughout the summer prepared by its Community Kitchen. Anyone ages 18 and under is invited to attend one of the many meal sites in Iowa to receive free and nutritious meals.

Since 1984, communities like ours have come together on the first Tuesday in August to celebrate National Night Out (NNO). What began as a community-building campaign is now a way for residents, neighbors, law enforcement, first responders, and more to build relationships and create safer communities.

The Coldest Night of the Year is an annual, family-friendly walk with locations across the United States and Canada. The purpose is to raise money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
